About Us

ELY W. SLUDER, Attorney

Attorney Ely W. Sluder has a much wider range of “real life” experience than most lawyers. Before law school, he spent a lot of time in the “School of Hard Knocks” and learned a lot that he now applies to his practice of law:

  • From his years of working construction (much of it with his father, who was a general contractor in California), pouring concrete, framing houses, landscaping, and plumbing, he learned the importance of quality craftsmanship, the need for a solid foundation, not cutting corners, and that anything worth doing is worth doing well.

  • From his years working in the food and beverage service industry as a server and bartender, he learned the importance of listening, catering to clients’ needs, being personable, and customer service.

  • From his time in the U.S. Army, he learned the importance of being “high speed, low drag,” attention to detail, and being self-disciplined.

  • From his time studying human communication (his undergrad major), he learned the importance of conflict resolution, effective interpersonal and intercultural communication, and public speaking.

  • Finally, from his 20 years post-law school spent working as a “virtual in-house counsel” for a wide range of business owners, he has learned the importance of start-ups having a solid business plan and solid legal and financial structure, clear, easy to understand partnership agreements, and effective, well-thought-out business succession and personal estate planning.

Ely received his law degree from the Arizona State University College of Law in 2003 (which, in 2006, changed its name to the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law). While attending there, he studied business/corporate law, internet law, real estate, and intellectual property, plus he completed the mediation clinic and have helped mediate many disputes during his career.

Prior to attending law school, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Communication from Arizona State University in 2000, with an emphasis on logic, rhetoric, and conflict resolution. He is also a veteran, having served as a Combat Medic in the US Army from 1992-1995--fortunately, never seeing combat.

He practices law in both New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, focusing primarily on helping people achieve the peace of mind that comes from knowing that they have a comprehensive estate plan--Last Will & Testament (and maybe a Living Trust), Durable POA, and Combined Advanced Directives for Health Care (Health Care POA + Living Will).

BRENDAN HANLEY, Paralegal

Brendan is a New York University graduate and current J.D. candidate at New York Law School. After graduation in May 2024, Brendan will sit for the New Jersey Bar Exam and is expected to be an attorney by the end of 2024. Brendan has a passion for helping people and an interest in business transactional law (contracts) and estate planning, making him a great fit for Sluder Law Firm!

LAUREN SWAL, Office Manager & Legal Assistant

Lauren is a real “hometown girl,” having been a part of the Allentown, NJ community since she was born. She really enjoys walking to work and having her office next door to where her mother used to run the local ice cream shoppe! In addition to keeping Sluder Law Firm running and being our main point of contact for clients, Lauren is also a small business owner who occasionally provides cosmetology services.
